 NEW AREA PAGEANT WINNERS !!!

The Miss & Teen Jacksonville / First Coast Pageants 2005 were held on Saturday & Sunday, January 8th and 9th, 2005 at the Florida Theatre in downtown Jacksonville, and it was the 50th Anniversary of the Miss Jacksonville Pageant and the theme was "Once Upon A Crown" in which the stage was adorned by a huge castle and even had it own Merlin the Magician (Terry Jones). This "Miss" pageant is an official local Miss America Preliminary Pageant which is funded by the North Florida Scholarship Organization.

The new Miss Jacksonville 2005 is Candace Cragg, a 21 year old Junior at the University of North Florida. She plans to obtain a Bachelors of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology and continuing with a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy. With her future degree in physical therapy, her career goal is to work in a rehabilitation center as a Physical Therapist with a focus on accident and sports related injuries. She is passionate about her platform "Help Wanted! Calling Youth To Serve." She developed her own website, www.YouthServingAmerica.com, which provides volunteer opportunities for young people and acknowledges outstanding community service. Candace is a very talented vocalist who performed the song "Vienna" in the Talent Competition. She is the daughter of Rick and Carolyn Cragg of Starke.

The new Miss First Coast 2005 is Stevie Rivenbark, a senior at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, who holds a 4.5 GPA. She is the President of her Senior Class there and a member of the National Honor Society. She plans to attend FSU and will seek a degree in Political Science. Her goal is to become an Ambassador for the United States and to travel to third world countries donation her time and talents to under-privileged children. Her platform is "Impoverished Children" and she is tremendously active with the Boys Home Association. Stevie impressed the judges with her violin playing abilities, winning her the Most Talented Award at the pageant, when she performed the "Concerto in A Minor." Stevie is the daughter of Steven and Sharon Rivenbark.

Both ladies will represent our city/area at the Miss Florida Pageant in late June/early July of 2005 in Miami, Florida. The Finalists included 1st Runner Up - Jessica Minch, 2nd Runner Up - Elisa Polka, 3rd Runner Up - Elizabeth Everett, and 4th Runner Up - Sherri Leaf. The Executive Director's Award went to Brandi Horton, and the Pageantry Spirit Award went to Ashiya Prince. Sherri Leaf was named the most photogenic contestant. All finalists received cash scholarships for college, and Miss Jacksonville and Miss First Coast specifically received a $2,000.00 scholarship each and an extensive list of prizes in addition to their participation in the state pageant.

For the fifth year, this pageant included a TEEN competition, which yielded Miss Jacksonville Teen 2005, Samantha Snyder, a Junior at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, who danced beautifully to the song "Mirror" and won the Most Talented Award. A Miss First Coast Teen 2005 was also crowned and the recipient of that title is Sarah Lee Fitzpatrick, a Junior at Bradford High School, who wowed everyone with her piano performance of the "Maple Leaf Rag", and Sarah additional received the Photogenic Award and Executive Director's Award.

The finalists for the teen competition were 1st Runner Up - Chelsea Matthews, 2nd Runner Up - Chelsea Rhoden, 3rd Runner Up - Brittney Johnson, and 4th Runner Up - Ashley Lake. The Pageantry Spirit Award went to Chelsea Matthews. The two teen titleholders received an amazing prize package and will represent Jacksonville and the First Coast at the Miss Florida Teen Pageant in April 2005 in Lakeland, Florida.

Both the MISS and TEEN pageant included the following categories: Interview (40%), Talent (30%), Swimsuit/Fitness (10%), Evening Wear (10%), and Overall/Composite Score (10%).

All four titleholders will make appearances and will entertain throughout Jacksonville and North Florida area. They will be ambassadors for the area, for the pageant, and for their platforms and their community service.
