YOUR YEAR AS MISS JACKSONVILLE TEEN

As the winner of the Miss Jacksonville Teen title,  you will serve for approximately one year as an "ambassador" for the city at social, civic, and community events on a volunteer basis. You will be a role model for others around you, particularly teens. You will be in the public eye and should give freely of your time and energy to promote your title and the pageant.

MISCELLANEOUS

PLATFORM

Like the contestants in the Miss Jacksonville Pageant, each teen contestant is to have a platform or community involvement which she participates in and/or feels strongly about. It is best to choose a platform which the contestant is actively involved in and to which she has a strong personal commitment.

Contestants must submit one (1) original and (10) copies of her Platform Essay. Please put the platform title at the top of the page and add your name. You should include the reason you chose this platform, your involvement, and your plans for this platform should you win this pageant. You will get this paperwork at your orientation meeting or online.

SPONSOR(S)

Each contestant is required to obtain at least one (1) sponsor page ($250.00) which will be placed in the official pageant program book. The full size page will feature the contestant's photograph and recognition of the sponsor (see contestant's paperwork for costs of sponsor page and for the benefits of obtaining a sponsor, such paperwork will be available at the orientation meeting). This sponsor page can list more than one business or individual (preferably not over 3) who would like to "honor" the contestant. The pageant will set up this "sponsorship" page. For all other ad sales, you will need to submit camera ready ads. A non-camera-ready ad requires an additional set-up fee of $25.00. More information is available by contacting the Executive Directors.

INTERVIEWS

The Interview Competition is your first opportunity to meet the judges who will choose the new Miss Jacksonville Teen.  When you begin your interview, you will need to do a brief introduction of yourself. You may be asked questions regarding your fact sheet, your speech/introduction, your career goals, your platform, and current events. Judges will observe your personality, validated opinions, speech, and personal appearance. The length of the interview will be announced at a later time and will probably be dependent upon the total number of Miss and Teen contestants. The interview will be held prior to the pageant on Friday, February 16, 2007 (time to be announced). Interview is 30% of a contestant's total score.

LIFESTYLE IN FITNESS (SPORTSWEAR)

The Sportswear Competition represents your fitness and personality.   You must wear a sportswear that shows off the way that you work out or get exercise, for example dancewear, cheerleading uniform, tennis outfit, jogging suit, aerobic wear, full length surf-skin, etc.   However, you can NOT wear a swimsuit, it should be something sporty.   You will wear the appropriate footwear with your sportswear, most likely a sneaker of some type.   Sportswear counts 10% of a contestant's total score.

TALENT

You will give a talent presentation of not more than two (2) minutes which may include singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument, reciting a comedy or dramatic reading, baton, etc. (You will be penalized for "over-time" talents.) Contestants are responsible for their own music, arrangements, etc. Judges will look for interpretive ability, technical skill, stage presence, entertainment value, and the integration of elements (costume, choreography, music). Talent is 35% of a contestant's total score. You must submit two good clean copies of your music by the deadline for the pageant to review and to time. You may provide CDs, but your talent music must be the only music on that CD.   CDs are preferred for easiest duplication.

SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENT

This is a new category and more details will be available soon.  You must submit the most current transcript from your school and your most current report card.  This category will be judged in advance by a panel of grade-school teaching/education professionals.   Scholastic Achievement is 5% of your overall score.

EVENING WEAR

The Evening Wear Competition will include an on-stage question, most likely from your platform information or your "fact sheet". Judges are looking for personality, sense of confidence, stage presence, walk, posture, and grace. This pageant encourages the contestants to keep their costs down and to buy "off-the-rack" dresses whenever possible to reduce expenses on the contestant. The Evening Wear Competition is 15% of a contestant's total score. The final 5% of the score is for your on-stage question.   While you are answering your on-stage question, the judges can reflect back on your overall performance and the qualities you possess to be a good titleholder, and incorporate those opinions in your score with their impressions of your on-stage answer.

SCHOLARSHIPS/AWARDS

Any and all scholarships, awards, and prizes will be announced closer to the pageant and will be dependent upon the support of and moneys raised by the contestants, the pageant, and the community. It is our goal to not only provide the winner with a crown and trophy, but to provide some type of scholarship award to the winner and the finalists. Any awards or prizes will be officially announced in the program book and/or on stage.

REHEARSALS

As with any production, there are necessary rehearsal periods to ensure that the pageant is produced in a professional manner. Rehearsals for the 2007 Miss Jacksonville Teen Pageant will be scheduled on the weekend, usually the Sunday afternoon prior to the pageant weekend (tentatively February 11, 2007). You will be given a confirmed schedule of rehearsals at your initial orientation, or as soon as they are set up. Attendance at all rehearsals is MANDATORY!
