Scholastic Achievement - TEEN

(Info known as of 8/2/06)

This is a new category for the Teen pageant and it counts 5% of the overall score.

DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS

**   Official Report Card (for 7th and 8th grade only), or Official Grade Transcript - report card/transcript must come directly from the contestant's school in a sealed envelope.  the seal will be broken by the person designated by the pageant and copied for each judge.  (Home schooled students must send sealed transcripts or report cards from the institution that is overseeing their academic studies.)

** There will be a separate panel of judges (separate from the competition panel of judges) consisting of between two (2) and five (5) local educators.  Due to the wide age range of our contestants, the judges will come from both middle and high school (not from a college).  For example, these educators can be admissions recruiters, academic deans, registrar, guidance counselor, and/or faculty members.

** Prior to the competition, these judges will be asked to review the following 2 documents from each teen contestant:

     (1) Official Grade Transcript - the transcript must come directly from the contestant's school in a sealed envelope.  The seal will be broke by the person who is designated by the local pageant and copies for each judge.

    (2) Contestant's Resume/Fact-Sheet - which will be copied for each judge

** Five Questions:  to level the playing field for 7th through 11th grade students from a variety of educational institutions, the following questions will be asked...

    (1) Has this student maintained at least a "B" average during the past academic year?

   (2) Would her academic achievements place her in the top 10% of your (the judges') institution?

   (3) Is she taking advance, AP, or IB courses?

   (4) Does she hold leadership positions in her school and extracurricular activities?

   (5) Based on the information before you, do you believe this student would meet the description of an "outstanding student"?

Each contestant will receive a score based on the "yes" or "no" answers to these questions.  A "yes" answer will receive 1 point.  A "no" answer will receive 0 points.  These scores will be transferred to the ballot and comprise 5% of the contestant's score.

Please submit the above referenced information by the deadline of January 14, 2007.
